How To Measure Yourself

Custom sewn dresses always fit better than standardised ones. That’s why it’s so important not only to know your own size but to take all the right measurements. Please ask your relatives or friends to help you, or get your measurements professionally taken by a seamstress.

To take the measurements, you will need a flexible measuring tape. Measurements must be taken in exactly the same underwear you’re going to wear with your future dress. That means not only a bra, but fitting underwear and tights as well, if any. If you’ve chosen a dress with an open back and you are not going to wear a bra with this dress, you should still wear a non-push up bra to take the measurements.

Before taking the measurements, please tie the waist with a band, which should be at the narrowest point of the waist. Some constructive calculations will be carried out from this line.

Required body measurements and instructions with photos are below:

Measure around the fullest part of the bust (usually over the nipple) with the bra on. Hold the tape firmly but comfortably. Make sure the tape measure is straight across your back and sits parallel to the floor.

The tape measure will need to be against your bare stomach to offer accurate information and it must not be placed around the waist too tightly. Your waist will be the narrowest part of your torso.

Measure at the widest point around the buttocks. Check again that the tape is horizontal and start at the '0' end of the tape. Measure twice. The two measurements should agree within half a centimeter of each other.

Use the tape to measure the distance from one shoulder (the boniest part of your shoulder) to the other, across the back. Follow the natural curves of the shoulders.

Measure from the base of your neck (the top of shoulder) to the nipple with the bra on.

It is measured from the base of your neck until the waist-line across the middle of your spine.

Stand with your feet flat on the ground and with your arms down by your sides, place the measuring tape on top of your shoulder and loop it under your armpit. Make sure the tape is sitting comfortably and not too tightly.

It is measured horizontally, around the fullest part of the upper arm. Notice, the arm should be let down and relaxed during the measurements.

Wrap the measuring tape around your neck at the base, make sure the tape is snug but not so tight. Leave enough room for one finger to fit comfortably between the tape measure and your skin.

Stand with arms relaxed at the sides. Use a flexible tape measure placed at the shoulder point down to the wrist bone, keeping the tape close to the skin.

Measure from the base of your neck down to the floor, standing straight with feet together, no shoes on.

Measure from your natural waistline down to the floor, standing straight with feet together, no shoes on.
