How To Measure Yourself

Custom-sewn dresses always fit better than standardised ones — and the key to that perfect fit lies in taking accurate measurements. Whether you’re ordering a bridal gown, áo dài, or evening dress, knowing your exact measurements ensures the best possible result.

We highly recommend asking a friend or family member to help, or visiting a professional seamstress for precise results.

Before You Begin

Use a flexible measuring tape.

Wear the same underwear you plan to wear with your dress — this includes your bra, underwear, and tights (if any).

If your dress has an open back and you’re not planning to wear a bra, please wear a non-push-up bra while measuring.

Pro Tip: Mark Your Waistline

Tie a ribbon or band around your natural waist — this is the narrowest part of your torso. Many measurements will be referenced from this point to ensure accurate shaping and proportions.

Instructions with diagrams/photos are provided below for each required measurement. Please follow carefully and take your time — your dream dress deserves the perfect fit.

Tailored to Your Size

Measure around the fullest part of the bust (usually over the nipple) with the bra on. Hold the tape firmly but comfortably. Make sure the tape measure is straight across your back and sits parallel to the floor.

The tape measure will need to be against your bare stomach to offer accurate information and it must not be placed around the waist too tightly. Your waist will be the narrowest part of your torso.

Measure at the widest point around the buttocks. Check again that the tape is horizontal and start at the '0' end of the tape. Measure twice. The two measurements should agree within half a centimeter of each other.

Use the tape to measure the distance from one shoulder (the boniest part of your shoulder) to the other, across the back. Follow the natural curves of the shoulders.

Measure from the base of your neck (the top of shoulder) to the nipple with the bra on.

It is measured from the base of your neck until the waist-line across the middle of your spine.

For custom sizing

Stand with your feet flat on the ground and with your arms down by your sides, place the measuring tape on top of your shoulder and loop it under your armpit. Make sure the tape is sitting comfortably and not too tightly.

It is measured horizontally, around the fullest part of the upper arm. Notice, the arm should be let down and relaxed during the measurements.

Wrap the measuring tape around your neck at the base, make sure the tape is snug but not so tight. Leave enough room for one finger to fit comfortably between the tape measure and your skin.

Stand with arms relaxed at the sides. Use a flexible tape measure placed at the shoulder point down to the wrist bone, keeping the tape close to the skin.

Measure from the base of your neck down to the floor, standing straight with feet together, no shoes on.
